Breadline (Tings Are so Hard)

A 1 track 2-step single (3m 10s) — released August 5th 2016 on Swing Ting

SWINGTING009 welcomes the return of Madd Again!, the UK soundsystem supercrew made up of Zed Bias, MC Trigga, Specialist Moss & Killa Benz. Their debut release 'Beg Nar Fren' featured the anthemic funky-dance bubbler 'Duggu' which was followed by their longplayer 'MaddTing Vol.1' - awarded Apple Music's Reggae Album of 2015 and included in The Fader and Large Up's end of year roundups for its infectious, playful sound. This single sees the group combine with bassline royalty DJ Q for a rugged banger set to light up this summer's carnival season and beyond!

'Breadline', opens with Benz serenading the bittersweet hook ('Tings Are So Hard') before dropping into Bias' itchy, rolling riddim featuring a warbling, woofer-shuddering b-line provided by DJ Q as the fellas spray poignant lyrics from the heart. The darker sound feels reflective of the cuts to public services and welfare as Specialist sings, 'life hard ... you got to have money, certain man flex and some don't have any'. Benz observes, when 'things get tough' we see 'hungry mouths', whereas Trigga cautions consumers, 'all the spending money have to ease back', empathising with the increased pressure on 9-5ers to stay motivated, hustle and grind to make ends meet. However, through channelling the austerity & friction currently clouding the UK Trigga suggests there is hope for the future as he passionately proclaims, 'We raise up in the struggle and drama!'
